Comets 3 - 0 Kingstonian

This was a hard fought game. NOT an easy victory but a really strong Comets performance made it seem so. I have NO idea how to identify a woman of the match because there were SO many very strong performances. I feel like we were resolute throughout, the better team throughout, but our football grew through the game. The way we were passing it around for periods in the second half was an absolute joy to watch.

Thanks to Kati and Shiv for doing strong stints in goal. Really appreciated it. Back line was really solid and we restricted them to one or two chances the whole game despite their incessant route one football and a couple of strong players up top. In the middle of the park we absolutely controlled the game and got the ball moving around nicely. Then we had pace AND guile going forward and created way more chances than expected. I liked the two up top as I feel like we had people around us up there which meant we looked more dangerous in the final third.

Goals from Roz (I am not using ANY of your hashtags thank you very much) in the first half and Ana and Jen in the second half secured the win. There were several more PROPER chances, some of which Ana kindly captured on video for us. Drika’s firecracker would have been goal of the season and I remember Shona’s VERY vividly as she ghosted in at the back stick in acres of space only to miss narrowly. Super Power’s performance deserved a goal.

Too many high points to mention but Rachel’s provision /chance creation, Ana’s dangerous role up top, Sam’s incessant running and chance creation, Courtney’s passing, Roz’ tackling, Jen’s all round game, Shona’s ability to put in a vintage 45 mins, Drika’s close control and rocket that should have found the top corner, Shiv’s /Kariel’s heading/clearances, Kati and Whit’s distribution, Paulina’s feistiness and touch, Sal’s glorious wing play, and a partridge in a pear tree. If you don’t like your three words of appreciation then I apologise but I thought you were all marvelous and I don’t have time to write more words. It is rare but beautiful to look at a team performance like that and see that everyone had a great game.
