The game was tight for longer than that score line suggests but our quality won out in the end and superior football put them to the sword. First half was pretty robust competitive stuff with their tough (sometimes legal) challenges and strength in 50-50s giving us some trouble. We played the better football but they looked dangerous on the break and Rachel’s excellent opener (cut back inside from the left, drilled it home) was cancelled out by a break, a through ball, and a foot race. Then Michelle bundled in one of her longer range efforts (2 yards) to restore our advantage before half time.
Second half was ALL COMETS. Our exquisite back line had got the measure of Bromley’s route one football and tidied up beautifully, leaving our demonic attack in possession and able to press home our advantage. Dominating possession and territory left Bromley under siege and reduced to hacked clearances and fighting with each other and (unwisely) with Meg. They conceded two penalties (one trip, one handball) which were coolly dispatched by Courtney before a FLOWING move (captured on video by Ana – Court to up to Michelle, Mich out wide for Drika’s run, Drika’s drilled cross, Rach’s tap in) in the final minute made it 5-1. Goals – Rachel 2 Court 2 Michelle 1. Woman of Match probably Michelle for me – exceptional hold up play, bringing others into the attack, constant threat.
