Hackney 4-1 Comets
We battled more valiantly than the scoreline suggests, keeping it to 0-0 for much of the first half and 1-1 for much of the second. Conceding 2 late goals flattered the scoreline. Having said that, they were better than us. Their passing and movement was extremely impressive at times. Every passer immediately moved and wanted it back. Lots of ‘3rd man runs’ moving into space in anticipation of early passes. We had to work HARD to contain them but work hard we did.
Their goals game, for the most part, from VERY well timed through balls for a well timed and angled run from their annoyingly good forward. Silvia played a BLINDER in goal and kept out some stinging shots and held onto some dangerous crosses. Our goal came from a launched ball from Abi from just inside their half. Might have been a cross, might have been a through ball, but it foxed their keeper, bounced up at her and she spooned it into her own net. Our women of the match were Ann (for incredible dynamism in the middle of the park) and Steph (for a quite brilliant, hard tackling, display at centre back).
